The club had a very good w/end with 3 teams having good results. First up was our u13 girls team who had a very impressive 3-3 to 0-1 victory over Glenswilly. This victory puts them into a play off with Termon, with the winners going forward to the County Semi-Final of the Championship. This would be a great achievement for this team and we wish them well in their play off. Next up was the Jun. B team who travelled to Donegal Town to take on Pettigo in the Quarter Final of the B Championship. We did not get off to the best of stats and Pettigo had 4 points on the board to no score to Rob. Emmets with 15 mins gone. Things improved in the remainder of the half and Adrian Mc Laughlin scored 3 points before the break to leave just one point between the sides Pettigo 0-4 R. Emmetts 0-3. The highlight of the first half was a great save by the Emmets keeper A. Sweeney from a well struck Pettigo penalty. The Adrian Mc Laughlin show continued in the second half as he put R.Emmets into the lead with 2 more points. Pettigo replied with 2 points of their own but then Kieran ( Bapsy ) Brennan took over for Emmets and he scored two brilliant goals and an excellent point to swing the tie very much in Emmets favour. Emmet Gallagher then scored Emmets last point and the tie was put out of Pettigo reach when Ryan Callaghan scored a great opportunist goal to leave the score 3-6 to 0-7 to Emmets. To Pettigo credit the continued to battle to the end and put on continued pressure but had to settle for a further 2 points and were denied a goal by another outstanding save by Sweeney in the Emmets goal. Full time score Emmets 3-6 Pettigo 0-9. This was a good performance by Emmets and with a semi- final spot now assured , this should surely be the motivation to come out to training on Tue. And Thur. Nights as it was obvious in the last 10 mins. that we were running out of steam and against different opposition could have been made to pay dearly for our lack of fitness. However well done to all in an overall good team performance. The 2nd. Leg of the Jun, A championship took place at Pairc Eimeid on Sun. when we played hosts to Milford whom we had defeated in the 1st, leg. This was a ding dong affair from the word go and it was obvious that Milford were really up to take this tie to a 3rd, game. Emmets were first to score with a point from P Mc Cauley but Milfrd hit back with 3 points of their own and when Emmets had edged in front Milford struck back with a goal and a point but Emmets did not panic and scored the last 2 points of the half to leave just the minimum between the sides at the interval 1-4 to 0-6 in favour of Milford. Emmets were playing into a tricky breeze in the second half but scored to quick points to take the lead, however this was short lived as Milford struck back and when Milford scored a second goal and went into a 3 point lead , a third game looked on the cards, but this Emmets team then showed their character and superb fitness level as the fought backs withs points to level the game and when M. Mc Glinchey charged forward from the defence to put Emmets a point up it looked as though the might take the victory but Milford continued to press and in injury time got the equaliser. The now went all out for the victory the required and it took an excellent tackle by C Mc Connell in the dying seconds to prevent the opportunity for Milford to get this score. This was an excellent game of football played in true championship spirit by two wholly committed teams and sensibly Ref, By K Mc Shea A draw was probably a fair result but Emmets will know that the will have up their performance if the are to make further progress in the Championship. Emmets scores came from M Lafferty 0-5, N Mc Connell 0-4, P Mc Cauley 0-2, J Mc Laughlin & M Mc Glinchey 0-1 each. This w/end fixtures are Sen. & Reserves away to N Ultan on Sat. At 6pm & 7-30 pm.
